Heavy rain and onrush of upstream waters flooded low-lying areas of Northern Bangladesh from June-July 2019. As a result, over 11 lakh people were marooned in waterlogged areas, while homes of five thousand families were eroded in the flood. Agriculture land, house, school, college, road and embankment were partially or fully damaged. During this time, RDRS Bangladesh supplied safe drinking water to 1,225 families of Rowmari and Chilmari upazilas under Kurigram district for 5 days.
Later on, RDRS Bangladesh distributed 40.12 MT High Energy Biscuit (HEB) among 10, 698 flood affected families of Ulipur, Rowmari and Rajibpur upazilas under Kurigram district which was supported by WFP. Besides, relief packages were distributed among 500 families of Kochakata union and 500 families of Narayanpur union under Nageshwari upazilla with the support of ACT Alliance and CCDB. However, BTD 4,162,500 were distributed among 925 flood affected families at Chilmari upazila under Kurigram district and Kamarjani union under Gaibandha district through mobile banking, funded by Kerk in Actie and also supported by ICCO Cooperation. With the financial support, RDRS also facilitated the transferring BTD 13,860,000 through bKash to 2,100 flood affected families in Kurigram (Chilmari and Ulipur Upazila), Gaibandha (sundarganj and Fulchori Upazila) and Jamalpur (Dawangonj and Islampur Upazila) districts. The same 2,100 families also received micro-gardening kits for the production of vegetables in their homestead.
